Sustainability and accessibility

NABERS and CBD are committed to ensuring our conference is environmentally sustainable and socially responsible.

Here are some of the ways we are embedding sustainable practices into our event:

  • Venue: Aerial UTS function centre is a not-for-profit business. All profits contribute to funding UTS student activities and experiences. The venue also offers casual job opportunities to UTS and TAFE students. Located within easy walking distance from Central station, guests are encouraged to travel by public transport to reduce transportation emissions.

  • Catering: all food served at the conference is vegetarian. Aerial will provide excess food to both students in UTS housing and OzHarvest.

  • Reducing waste: throughout the event we have minimised waste as much as possible, including single-use cutlery, paper materials, handouts and any promotional materials that cannot be reused.

  • Offsets: NABERS has partnered with GreenPower to offset carbon emissions.

  • Renewable energy: the conference location is home to 426 solar panels to generate renewable energy. Excess food waste at the venue is turned into a clean soil-like material that’s used as a fuel to generate renewable energy.

  • Virtual options: guests and speakers have the opportunity to attend the event virtually from any location to help reduce the carbon emitted by transportation.

If you have any questions, please contact us at nabers@environment.nsw.gov.au.

Accessibility

Our venue is fully wheelchair accessible via ramps and lifts and an accessible bathroom is available on site. We can also provide a hearing induction loop on request and a recording of the conference with closed captioning.

If you have any questions regarding accessibility requirements, please contact us at nabers@envrionment.nsw.gov.au
